Bookplate of 'Bethune of Balfour'. John Elliot Drinkwater Bethune (1801-1851) was a legislator and promoter of education in India. It is likely that his Fife (in Scotland) connections brought him in contact with the circle of Sir David Brewster. Purchased in this state from Harrwitz (Berlin) in 1891."
